• Design & Material Selection: There is a significant range between vinyl, composite, metal, and LP. Variations in accents, accessories, and larger profile trim can also increase the cost.
• The "Tear-Off" Factor: The cost to remove existing siding depends on the ease of removal for that material. For example, removing wood siding costs more than removing vinyl. We also inspect your wall sheathing for rot. If your existing wood is healthy, there is no need to replace it. However, if we find "soft spots", we need to replace those sections.

EZ Home Solutions does not provide painting services. But, yes, you can repaint vinyl siding. Theres a couple major caveats: paint selection and structural age.

While painting vinyl seems like a good idea for a short-term facelift, it requires a very specific approach in cold, extreme climates like Minnesota and Missouri, where standard paint will fail quickly. We also suggest to get a quote for siding replacement to compare as the cost to redo it may be closer than you expect.

The 3 Rules for Painting Vinyl Siding

• You Must Use Exterior "Vinyl-Safe" Paint: Vinyl expands and contracts significantly with temperature swings. Standard exterior paint will lead to cracking and peeling within 1–2 seasons. Look for a paint explicitly formulated to be safe for Vinyl, typically 100% acrylic. Make sure to follow the manufacturer installation guide or hire a pro.
• Never Paint It Darker Than the Original Color: This is the biggest mistake homeowners make. Vinyl siding is engineered to absorb a specific amount of heat based on its original factory color. If you paint light gray vinyl a dark charcoal or black, the new paint will absorb too much heat, causing the vinyl panels to warp, buckle, or melt right off the house. Look for vinyl-safe colors, they use modified color pigments to bounce heat away.
• Check Your Factory Warranty First: Painting it will almost certainly void the manufacturer’s original warranty.

If your vinyl siding is structurally sound and you just want to refresh a faded pastel color, painting may make sense for you.

However, if the vinyl is older, becoming brittle in sub-zero winters, or showing signs of storm wear, painting is just putting lipstick on a compromised exterior envelope. 

Siding lifespan depends heavily on the material selected and the quality of installation. In Minnesota, our extreme weather accelerates wear on standard materials. Shifting from 90°F+ summers to sub-zero winters with constant freeze-thaw cycles will test every exterior product.

Proper installation is critical to achieving maximum lifespan. We strictly adhere to manufacturer installation guidelines, including precise thermal expansion gaps and complete envelope sealing, to ensure your siding performs as engineered.

A typical installation takes 4 to 7 days, depending on the size of your home and the complexity of your project. Afterwards, we will setup inspections with you and the city before the project is considered complete.

Here is the EZ breakdown:

• Site Prep & Protection: Before the first panel comes off, we set up around the yard and position our on-site dumpster. We move patio furniture and protect your landscaping so your rose bushes survive the project as well as your house does.
• The "Clean Tear-Off": We strip your home down to the wood sheathing. This is critical, if we find rot or previous water damage, we stop and notify you that we must fix it properly rather than covering it up.
• The Waterproofing: We install a high-performance house wrap, tape, and metal flashing to keep water from getting into windows, doors, and "meet-points." 
• Precision Hang: Our crews install your chosen materials. We finish with your custom gables and accents to pull the whole design together.
• The Magnetic Sweep: Once the siding is up, we perform a multi-pass sweep with high-strength magnets to ensure your driveway and lawn are 100% clear of debris and nails.
• Final Inspections: We will provide an inspection and walk-through with you to ensure everything is to your satisfaction. The permit also requires the city to perform an inspection confirming code requirements have been met.
